Physics New Capacitor Bank Projects

Red Cap Bank Project

Max Bigelmayr, Dezember 2025

The Red Cap Bank Project is a capacitor bank project in the "higher voltage range" up to 20kV charging voltage. By using very low-inductance pulse capacitors from Maxwell Laboratories (now General Atomics), relatively short pulse durations can be achieved in experiments. The entire system was
pre-designed in CAD and optimized for the low-inductance arrangement of the busbars.

By simulating the current density distribution in the collection terminals, an optimal arrangement of the components was ultimately developed in the form of a grid box according to UIC 435-3 and DIN 15155. The project will be implemented as a real experimental setup during the 2026-2027 period.
